H ow to fix a slow drain
Recipe: Natural Drain Cleaner
- 1/2 Cup Vinegar
- 1/2 Cup Baking Soda
- 1 Gallon Boiling Water
Step 1: Pour the baking soda down the drain, (scale the recipe if you need more @ a 1:1 ratio).
Step 2: Pour the vinegar into the drain.
Step 3: Wait! few hours, few meaning ~2-5hrs.
Step 4: pour the boiling water down the drain to rinse.
Why does this work?
If you remember doing this experiment in school, add a little red food coloring for that volcano like effect. Anyway, the baking soda NaHCO3 is reacting with the vinegar(acetic acid) CH3COOH to yield water H2O, carbon dioxide CO2, and sodium acetate CH3COONa. The bubbles you see will be carbon dioxide, the liquid will be water, and the cloudiness is the salt sodium acetate. Mainly it just becomes water with a little salt(sodium acetate, not your typical table salt). This recipe should help loosen the debris causing the slow drain. However this will not work the best with grease, fatty clogs, or your bag of marbles that might be the cause.
